Description

Dhaka (formerly Dacca in English) is the capital and largest city of Bangladesh. It is one of the largest cities by population and also one of the most historically rich regions of Bengal and South Asia.

Dhaka emerged as a cosmopolitan city during the Mughal Empire. Since then, it has become a hub for trade and culture, with a long history being the Capital of Bengal. It is called the City of Mosques and some even call it the Venice of the East due to its Islamic architecture and a riverfront facing the Buriganga (Old Ganges).

It is also known as the Rickshaw Capital of the World! As over 500,000 cycle rickshaws are running on its roads. Although being described as a concrete jungle, Dhaka has venerable green spaces, including many gardens and parks.

Today, Dhaka is South Asia's second-most populous capital after Delhi and a significant financial center alongside Mumbai and Karachi.
